This heirloom mix is called "the outhouse mix" because Hollyhocks were often planted near outhouses. At social gatherings these huge, single saucer haped blooms helped ladies of the 1900s discover the location of the 'water closet' without asking the hosts.
Hollyhocks are biennial and will grow foliage the first year and flower the second. From then on, they self seed.
