Maranta - Red Prayer Plant 4" pot
This brightly patterned plant's complete latin name is Maranta leuconeura. Otherwise known as the Prayer Plant. It's intricately patterned leaves fold upwards at night, which is why it's also known as the Prayer Plant. The plant has a trailing habit, and will eventually cascade/sprawl over the sides of its pot, growing to about 12-18". As it matures, tiny lavender flowers appear on slender flower stalks, typically in summer.
Maranta leuconeura is pet friendly. Place in medium to bright indirect light and water when the top 1-2" of soil feel dry. It wants to remain slightly (not soggy) moist and appreciates homes with higher humidity. Mist regularly or keep on tray with pebbles with water if possible. I use mine under a big shade tree in the summer -- it loves being outside when it is above 60.
